Our digestive system, particularly our gut, is crucial to overall health it contains trillions of bacteria that aid digestion and produce essential chemicals for our bodies. However, our modern lifestyle often strains our digestive system with constant eating. Therefore, we need to occasionally give our system a break so it has a chance to recover.
Historically, our ancestors would have one or two meals a day due to limited food resources. However, as food availability increased, our eating habits changed, and our gut microbe diversity decreased.
Research suggests giving our digestive system a break allows our gut to rest and regenerate, improving gut microbe diversity. Moreover, fasting has been shown to lead to various metabolic changes. Studies have found it can lower blood pressure, weight, fat mass, blood glucose, and LDL cholesterol. It also helps to reset our taste buds and allows us to appreciate the flavours of food more.
We run our gut reset protocol each year at the start of spring. This is a great time to give our gut some love as we change from eating heavier winter foods to more fresh ones.
For our members, we run protocols specific for each body type ranging from 3 – 7 days, each including distinct foods to support their needs.
